Fifteen to twenty years after the events of the Gospels, the apostle Paul planted a church in Corinth, Greece. A few years after the church was planted, Paul wrote letters to the people there, wanting to help these Christians he loved so much stay on the narrow path. In the second letter to this church at Corinth, Paul explained his motivations, writing:
“For the love of Christ controls us. For we have concluded that one has died for all, therefore all have died. And he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and was raised for their sake.”
(2 Cor. 5:14-15).
This is our calling once Jesus has saved us: to live for Him, not for self. It is a high calling, and a person lacks even a whiff of a chance of accomplishing this on their own. It was true of the apostles, and it's true for us. Only through the help and the power of the Holy Spirit can we live as we are called.
My prayer: Our Father, may all who read this know your Son as their personal Lord and Savior before they leave this earth. Please guide us in your Holy Spirit, that we may do your will by living for Jesus and by reflecting your light to the world to bring glory to You.
